Cultural Village Foundation, Katara will launch the 10th Halal Qatar Festival from February 21 to 26.

In a statement, Katara said: “The theme of the festival centers around a distinct feature of our heritage, one that is drawn from deep within the deserts of Qatar — sheep and goat breeding.”

The 6-day festival will be conducted at the southern area of the village from 9am to 9pm according to Katara’s website. The festival comes within the framework of continuous efforts to revive the heritage and preserve the customs and traditions through a vivid picture reflecting various details of wildlife and desert life. Last year’s festival was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The festival will offer the public a rare insight into the livestock industry allowing them to journey into this essential aspect of Qatari culture deeply ingrained in their traditions. Some countries from the GCC will participate in the festival.

Halal Qatar Festival provides a platform for breeders to display and acquire the best types of livestock and the most beautiful sheep and goats, in addition to competition and motivation to improve livestock production and develop related industries.

The highlights of the festival include Al Mazad or public auction of Halal (sheep and goats), Al Izab or barns where different breeds of halal such as Syrian and Arab sheep are showcased, and the Al Mazain which is a competition for the most beautiful sheep and goats.

The previous editions focused on livestock breeding and trade as an important aspect of Qatari culture attracted a large number of visitors for its unique features. Aside from auction, competitions and exhibitions, 2020’s edition also featured a Bedouin tent where the process of Sadu or embroidery in geometrical shapes and other handicrafts were exhibited. Food stalls and traditional handicrafts were also present.
