Shura Council member H E Abdullah bin Nasser bin Turki Al Subaie during the 16th session of PAM General Assembly in Dubai, yesterday.
The General Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) approved the permanent membership of the State of Qatar, represented by the Shura Council, during the work of the 16th session of its General Assembly, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
In his speech during the session, member of the Shura Council, H E Abdullah bin Nasser bin Turki Al Subaie, stressed the Shura Councils belief in the objectives of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, and its initiatives for peace in the region and the world, and the Councils support for all efforts and activities organised by the Parliament to achieve security and stability and contribute to efforts to achieve sustainable development.
His Excellency said that convinced of the initiatives and actions of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, Qatar decided to join it as a permanent member. His Excellency thanked the Parliamentary Assembly for its unanimity in granting the Shura Council permanent membership, and said, that this confirms the confidence in the policy pursued by the State of Qatar under the leadership of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
In addition, during the session, H E Abdullah bin Nasser bin Turki Al Subaie was elected as a permanent member of the Committee of Economic Experts in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean.
On the sidelines of the General Assembly, the Shura Council delegation met with President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean Gennaro Migliore, and Secretary-General of the Parliament Ambassador Sergio Piazzi, where they reviewed aspects of joint coordination between the Shura Council and the Parliament and ways to enhance them.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean is an international organization that enjoys observer status in the United Nations General Assembly.
The organisation plays a key role in enhancing and building trust between the countries of the Euro-Mediterranean region and the Gulf countries, and in supporting efforts to enhance security, stability and peace.
