Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs H E Ghanem bin Shaheen Al Ghanem during the opening ceremony of Al Utrujjah endowment project, which aims to support Holy Quran leaning centres, at Freej Bin Mahmoud, yesterday. The project comprises 112 international standard residential apartments and a sport club. The ceremony was attended by Director of Endowment Affairs Department Dr. Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamad Al Thani and a number of donors of endowments and officials from the Ministry.
Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs H E Ghanem bin Shaheen Al Ghanem yesterday inaugurated ‘Al Utrujjah’, the largest endowment project worth QR68.8m dedicated for Holy Quran learning centres.
The project, located in Freej Bin Mahmoud, is comprising of 112 international standard residential apartments and a sport club. The opening ceremony was attended by Director of Endowment Affairs Department Dr. Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamad Al Thani and a number of donors of endowments and officials from the Ministry.
Addressing the event, Dr. Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamad Al Thani said that the revenues which will come from the renting out of the apartments will be used in supporting centres of Holy Quran running across the country with thousands of students. This is one of the important projects of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs as it serves the Holy Quran Learning Centres in the country.
The high demand of the Holy Quran centres motivated Endowment Affairs Department to allocate a special endowment (waqf) for these centres, which will also help the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in its expansion plans to receive more students and raise the quality of education with the best modern means available.
The donors lauded Endowment Affairs Department for building this fantastic project to serve Holy Quran. They also thanked Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs H E Ghanem bin Shaheen Al Ghanem for his special attention to the endowment project.
The endowment is the third sector in the Islamic economy after the governmental and private sectors, and it is among the pillars on which the society is based for its educational, social, health, urban and other developments.
