Doha: The fresh graduates of Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q), a Qatar Foundation partner university look forward to leverage their knowledge and experience to the country.
They strive to contribute to the country’s development through applying the experience they have gained at Qatar Foundation.
Some CMUQ graduates shared their campus life experiences and aspirations for the future.
“I do plan on working in the Middle East region with Qatar surely on the top of my list! With the four years I have spent at Qatar Foundation and countless memories I have made I feel I would love to work here and contribute in one way or another either through research or by helping solve problems for institutions within the country,” said Rafay Ur Rehman Khan, who major in Information Systems(IS).
He said that his journey at CMU-Q and as a member of the Education City community has been a special one.
Speaking about plans after the graduation Khan said, “Though my major is IS, have always been interested in social sciences and the people part of IS. I intend to leverage my technical skills to solve problems, be it for organizations, governments or companies. For this, I intend to enter the consulting industry or work in an organization where I can use data to solve large-scale problems.”
Vania Ashoorian a graduate with major in Biological Sciences, said that education at CMU-Q has equipped her with the necessary research skills that will be invaluable in future graduate studies and career, as she plans to pursue further research opportunities.
“I am interested in working at the intersection of sports, neuroscience, and medicine. To further my knowledge and research experience, I plan to pursue a master’s degree before enrolling in medical school. My goal is to become a doctor and conduct research in this field to better understand the relationship between sports and brain function, with the ultimate aim of developing new treatments and interventions for athletes,” said Ashoorian.
The journey at CMUQ has helped Latifa Alnaimi in shaping her personality and developing skills. She graduated yesterday with a major in Business Administration and intends to work at the Qatar National Bank as a business analyst; after two years Alnaimi plans to join HEC Paris and peruse a master’s degree.
“The reason why I chose business is to give back to my country, since I saw how businesses played an important role in Qatar during the blockade. As of now, I am trying to join different sectors to continue boosting the economy, but I still believe that I have a lot to offer when it comes to the entrepreneurial and analytical skills that I have developed at CMU,” she said.
At CMUQ Asmaa Al Yaqoub has gained exceptional educational and personal experience and graduated with a major in Biological Sciences; Post graduation she is looking forward to applying to undergrad medical school. .
“I have learned to be an independent experimenter, how to do research and how to work in a research lab, so I can contribute back to my country in the research field. Group work and collaboration with peers are also things I will take with me moving forward in my career,” she said.
