New York: The Shura Council participated in the 3rd meeting of the Preparatory Committee for the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament and the meeting of the Preparatory Committee for the 15th Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament. Both were held on Wednesday in New York.
The Shura Council was represented by Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council, Member of both Preparatory Committees, and Representative of the Arab Group HE Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti, along with Member of the Shura Council HE Omair bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi.
The meeting of the Preparatory Committee for the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament discussed the arrangements for the conference, which is scheduled to take place in Geneva in July.
Participants exchanged views on the global issues to be addressed, including good governance, parliamentary cooperation in tackling crises and geopolitical challenges, and strengthening the role of parliaments in achieving stability and supporting development initiatives.
Discussions also covered ways to enhance parliamentary work by leveraging modern technologies and improving consultation mechanisms among different parliaments to achieve greater policy coordination at the international level.
Participants emphasized the importance of strengthening parliamentary partnerships between nations and enhancing coordination on issues of common interest, contributing to more effective solutions to global challenges, especially in light of the political and economic changes the world is witnessing.
Meanwhile, the meeting of the Preparatory Committee for the 15th Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament included the adoption of the report from the Preparatory Committee 2nd meeting, which was held in October 2024.
The Committee also discussed the organizational mechanisms for the Summit, as well as its main topics and proposed structure.
