Environment Minister: NSD promotes sport awareness

Minister of Environment and Climate Change H E Dr Sheikh Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed bin Ali Al Thani yesterday played golf at Golf Club of Education City to mark National Sport Day.

The Minister also participated in other sport and fitness activities organised by the Ministry at the Club. The event was attended by Assistant Undersecretary for Environment Affairs at the Ministry Hassan Juma Al Mohannadi and a number of directors and officials of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.

“The allocation of a national day for sports annually since 2012 reflects the vision of the wise leadership in creating a culture of exercise and raising awareness of its importance and role in the life of individuals and society,” said Minister of Environment and Climate Change.

The Minister said that National Sport Day engages large number of people in different types of sport activities enhancing their health and mental capabilities, in support of the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.

“The National Sports Day is an important occasion to encourage and motivate all members of society to do exercise and make it their daily lifestyle, given the importance of sport in the life of all individuals for building healthy societies,” said the Minister.

He said that sports brought positive impact in the life of human being providing resistance power which was very much needed to fight against virus especially during COVID-19.

“This is why everyone including old and young are required to keep doing regular sport activities throughout the year, with the aim of raising and nurturing an athletic generation that contributes to the renaissance and development of our country,” said the Minister.

The Minister said that there is an integrative relationship between sport and the environment as both have positive impact on human health and society. He said that Qatar made great efforts to preserve the elements of the environment (air, water and soil) and reduce the harmful effects of human health.

The Minister said that the State also made especial focus on sports and the allocation of sports day is a good example of government’s efforts in this regard.

Hassan Juma Al Mohannadi said: “The National Sport Day is one of the most prominent days that we look forward to every year, as it reflects Qatar’s interest in sports because of its positive impact on the life of the individual, in addition to being an occasion to engage people in sport activities.”

Director of Public Relations and Communication at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Farhoud Hadi Al Hajri said that the Sport Day has become one of the exceptional and special occasions celebrated by citizens and residents of the country annually.

“Qatar is one of the first countries in the world to dedicate a sport day which reflects that how much the wise leadership gives importance to sport to ensure the health of people to build the nation,” said Al Hajri.
