Doha: Chairperson of Qatar Museums, HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani posted a photo of herself with world-renowned primate ethologist and conservationist Dr Jane Goodall on Instagram today, March 7.

"World treasure in Qatar," writes Sheikha Mayassa in the caption, which is followed by various animal emojis.

Dr Goodall is considered the world's foremost expert on chimpanzees due to her groundbreaking discovery of their behavior. She discovered that chimpanzees make tools, eat and hunt for meat, and have similar social behavior to humans. Much of this tool use is learned behavior that is passed down from generation to generation. Her landmark research has revolutionized how people view the closest living relative of humans in the animal kingdom.

Some of the comments on Sheikha Mayassa's post include:

- @gregorbecker.artist: Wow she is a giant. Her work on primates - incredible. An icon.
- @marrakech718: My childhood hero.
- @maqsood1465: A true legend.
- @wajanadia: One of Africa's jewels! Welcome to Qatar Jane.
- @artbymisriya: A true gem.
- @hmongodin: My dream is to meet her!!!

The 88-year-old global icon is in Qatar as one of the speakers for the two-day Earthna Summit 2023 on March 8 and 9 at Msheireb Downtown Doha. The Earthna Summit 2023 will be a "first-of-its-kind carbon neutral event on sustainability in hot and arid climates".

As per her 'speaker bio', the "UN Messenger of Peace's transformative research continues today as the longest-running wild chimpanzee study in the world. Jane’s work builds on scientific innovations, growing a lifetime of advocacy including trailblazing efforts through her international organization the Jane Goodall Institute which advances community-led conservation, animal welfare, science, and youth empowerment." It added that she is "a global icon spreading hope and turning it into meaningful positive impact to create a better world for people, other animals, and the planet we share."
