Doha: A new video by NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center Conceptual Image Lab shed light on the gargantuan black hole TON 618, which carries the weight of over 60 billion solar masses.

The video shows the TON 618 as bigger than our solar system itself and the gigantic Andromeda galaxy.

"These monsters lurk in the centers of most big galaxies, including our own Milky Way, and contain between 100,000 and tens of billions of times more mass than our Sun," said NASA in a statement.

TON 618, according to NASA, is one of distant and massive black holes for which astronomers have direct measurements.

It contains more than 60 billion solar masses, with a “shadow so large that a beam of light would take weeks to traverse it.”

Hypothetically, if a black hole was to enter our solar system, according to the European Southern Observatory (ESO), “planets would be slung away into space by gravitational forces, or they would be ripped apart by the strong tidal forces of the black hole.”

Though most black holes known to man are at a safe distance from us, if the Earth were to directly encounter a rogue black hole the size of a small coin the hole would rip the planet apart.

According to the ESO however, the chances of that happening however are very slim.
