San Jose Sharks beat Blackhawks in shootout

San jose, california:  Forwards Joe Pavelski, Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton all converted in the shootout as the San Jose Sharks beat the Chicago Blackhawks 2-1 in their NHL game yesterday. Goaltender Antti Niemi stopped winger Patrick Sharp after allowing a shootout goal to center Jonathan Toews as San Jose snapped a three-game losing streak while beating Chicago for the second straight time in a shootout.
Tampa Bay Lightning center Nate Thompson scored his second goal of the game 4:36 into overtime to give the Tampa Bay Lightning a 2-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens.
Jamie McGinn and Gabriel Landeskog both scored twice to help the Colorado Avalanche to a 7-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres.
Winger Wayne Simmonds and center Claude Giroux scored goals and goaltender Steve Mason stopped 35 shots as the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Los Angeles Kings 2-0.
The shutout was Mason’s third of the season and his second in the last three games.
Los Angeles lost for the eighth time in nine games and were shut out for the third time in five games as the Kings struggle to stay in third place in the Pacific Division.
Backup goaltender Chad Johnson coasted to his second career shutout as the Boston Bruins beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-0. Johnson improved to 10-3 this season. He has played just 26 games in the NHL and stopped a breakaway by right wing Ales Hemsky on the first shot of the game before he went on to make 21 saves and record his fourth successive win.Reuters
