Jassim Al Muftah, MENA region’s Director of Corporate Communications for beIN Sports
Doha, Qatar: For beIN Sports, participating in the prestigious Web Summit Qatar 2025 is not just about showcasing the organisation’s brand but also reinforcing its role as a key player in both regional and global markets, said Jassim Abdulrahman Al-Muftah, Director of Corporate Communications, beIN MENA.
“We’re here to support the event as a local Qatari entity, but also as a big player in the global industry,” Al Muftah told The Peninsula on the sidelines of the four-day technology and innovation summit which concluded on February 26.
The global leader in sports broadcasting and entertainment’s expansive portfolio includes exclusive rights to some of the world’s most popular sporting events, making it a dominant force in the industry. With operations spanning MENA, France, Turkiey, Asia Pacific, and North America (including the US and Canada with its headquarters in Miami), beIN Sports continues to expand its influence.
beIN Sports’ booth at the summit was nothing short of extraordinary, featuring a wide array of activations designed to engage attendees and highlight technological advancements.
Among the standout attractions was a fully-fledged studio on the second floor of their booth, where live news bulletins and wrap-ups of the Web Summit were being produced. Exclusive interviews with high-profile speakers further amplify the company’s media presence.
One particularly exciting feature is the daily sessions offering attendees hands-on experience in presenting and directing. Led by experts from beIN Sports, these workshops have sparked immense curiosity and participation. “It’s a great opportunity to connect with our audience,” noted Al Muftah, emphasising the value of fostering direct engagement.
Technology remains at the core of beIN Sports’ strategy, and the Web Summit provided the perfect platform to unveil their latest innovations. Attendees had the chance to explore a live demo room showcasing TOD, beIN’s premier OTT streaming platform. Set to launch within the next month, the upgraded TOD platform promises enhanced features such as advanced playback controls, Dolby Atmos sound systems, and interactive viewing options.
“We invest heavily in technology because we want to be pioneers. By leveraging state-of-the-art tools, beIN Sports aims to deliver unparalleled experiences to its viewers while staying ahead of industry trends,” explained Al Muftah.
Another crowd favourite was the Premier League trophy display, which attracted over 2,000 visitors on the first day alone. Fans eagerly lined up for photo opportunities, underscoring the universal appeal of major sports leagues.
Beyond dazzling activations, the Web Summit serves as a vital networking hub for beIN Sports. The event brings together tech startups, sports organisations, and entertainment companies from around the globe, creating fertile ground for potential partnerships.
Al Muftah highlighted the importance of engaging with emerging players in the sports tech space. “You never know when an opportunity might arise,” he remarked, citing a recent encounter with a US-based startup during lunch.
This spirit of collaboration reflects beIN Sports’ commitment to innovation and adaptability. Whether through integrating new technologies or forging strategic alliances, the company remains dedicated to pushing boundaries and delivering exceptional content to its subscribers.
Reflecting on the evolution of the Web Summit Qatar, Al Muftah praised the event’s rapid growth since its inaugural edition last year. With an estimated 25,000 attendees in 2024, the summit has become a magnet for diverse participants worldwide. Compared to last year’s smaller-scale activation, beIN Sports opted for a larger, more ambitious setup this time around, reflecting their confidence in the event’s potential.
“It’s great to engage with business partners and consumers alike,” Al Muftah shared. “The Web Summit gives you that unique opportunity to connect on a personal level.”
He anticipates that the summit will continue to grow in stature, attracting even more influential voices and groundbreaking ideas in the years to come.
