Registration of new private vehicles rises 29.9% in November

The registration of new private vehicles surged in November 2021, reflecting soaring demand amid growing recovery of Qatar’s economy. 

The total number of registered new vehicles stood at 6,882 in November, recording a growth of 35.8 percent compared to same month in 2020, according to data released by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) yesterday.

The registration of new private vehicles was 4,335 in November 2021 compared to 3,317 in the same period in 2020, registering a rise of 29.9 percent year-on-year. On month-on-month basis, the growth in November 2021 was 6.5 percent. Out of the total new vehicles, the private new vehicles accounted for 63 percent. The registration of private motorcycles accounted 9 percent of the total new vehicles, which stood at 590, registering a rise of 46 percent on yearly basis. 

The registration of new private transport vehicles stood at 1,322 in November which showed a 24.8 percent decline on monthly basis and a growth of 29.1 percent on yearly basis. Such vehicles formed 4 percent of the total new vehicles in November 2021. The registration of trailers also witnessed a surge of 161.9 percent and 37.5 percent annually and monthly respectively in the same month.

According to figures in the report, the clearing of vehicles processes stood at 126,331, showing a monthly and annual increase of 3.7 percent and 9.4 percent respectively. The renewal of vehicles was 68,710, seeing a rise of 5.6 percent and 7.3 percent in the same period monthly and yearly. The transfer of ownership stood at 30,870 vehicles, an increase of 6.8 percent on year-on year basis.  The total number of traffic violations registered during November 2021 were 199,504, witnessing a monthly decline of 8 percent and yearly increase of 31.7 percent.

Out of the total traffic violations registered in November 2021, speed limit violation (radar) accounted for 70 percent, while stand and wait rules and obligations violations were 10 percent. The speed limit violation (radar) of vehicles was 140,165 in November 2021.

There were 6,105 traffic signal violations in November 2021.

The violations registered in Qatar vary from having no number plates, covering the number plates, to making loud noise and other serious traffic violations.

The General Directorate of Traffic has called on motorists and road users to avoid unruly traffic behaviour and to abide by traffic rules to maintain public safety. It has activated a system to record violations pertaining to use of mobile phone while driving, through CCTV cameras installed at roadsides and traffic signals.
