Web Summit Qatar Permanent Organising Committee convenes

DOHA: Government Communications Office (GCO) Director, H E Sheikh Jassim bin Mansour bin Jabor Al Thani yesterday chaired the Web Summit Qatar Permanent Organising Committee meeting, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss Qatar’s upcoming participation in Web Summit Lisbon and preparations for Web Summit Qatar 2025.

Led by the GCO, the committee comprises representatives from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Invest Qatar and Qatar Tourism. Over 20 meetings were held since the inaugural Web Summit Qatar, which comes as part of the country’s five-year agreement to host the global tech event through 2028.

“The remarkable success of Web Summit Qatar’s first edition has cemented Qatar’s position at the forefront of the region’s technology and innovation landscape, and through our continued collaboration with stakeholders across Qatar’s public and private sectors to prepare for the next edition, we are simultaneously shaping an integrated tech ecosystem that aligns with our nation’s ambitious vision,” said Sheikh Jassim.

“Our strong presence at Web Summit Lisbon 2024 reflects how this collaboration is creating a cycle of innovation and growth,” said Sheikh Jassim. “We are proud to be returning to Lisbon, spotlighting our emerging talent and industry leaders on the global stage.”  Qatar’s engagements at Web Summit Lisbon include a pavilion showcasing the country’s evolving tech landscape and attractive business environment while promoting the upcoming 2025 edition. 

According to GCO, Several representatives from key local entities will speak at the event, including CEO at Invest Qatar, Sheikh Ali bin Alwaleed Al Thani; CEO of Qatar Development Bank, Abdulrahman Al Suwaidi; and Head of Sector for Technology, Media & Telecommunications at Qatar Investment Authority, Mohammed Al Hardan. In addition, finalists of the Startup Qatar Investment Program, launched during Web Summit Qatar 2024 earlier this year, will be unveiled during the event. 

Web Summit Qatar 2025 has already gained widespread demand for general attendee ticket sales, showing a fourfold increase compared to the same time last year. Startup programme sales have grown by 500 percent, while country delegations are set to expand by 30 percent year-over-year, with participation confirmed by Germany, Hong Kong, India, Spain, Bahrain, Jordan, Oman, Turkey, Netherlands and Thailand, among others.
