A sailor taking part in the team racing event of Qatar Optimist Cup of Qatar Sailing and Rowing Federation (QSRF) at Corniche yesterday.
Doha: Turkey topped at the team racing event of Qatar Optimist Cup while a team comprising of sailors from Great Britain, Germany and Switzerland finished second here yesterday.
The Turkish team of Rasim Yasar, Okyanus Arikan, Can Ertürk, Lara Cindoglu and Aaron Schlinck came first followed by the team consisting of Mathew Hardie, Richard C Falke, Nicolas Rolaz and Luca Schaefer.
The Algerian team comprising of Mohammed Kebaili, Fares Abdelfettah, Zakari Hichem Mokhtari and Nouha El Alia Akil finished third.
Around 44 sailors, born in 1998 or after, from 14 countries are taking part in the championship which is also contested in the individual boys and girls section.
Sailors from Algeria, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Spain, Finland, Germany, India, Lebanon, the Netherlands, Singapore, Switzerland, Turkey, UAE, besides Qatar in the competition which will end on January 2.
The first three place winners will get cash prizes.
