Ministry of Municipality opens Hazm Al Markhiya Park

DOHA: The Ministry of Municipality, represented by the Public Parks Department, yesterday inaugurated the Hazm Al Markhiya Park, as part of its efforts to promote quality of life and offer an enduring and healthy environment for citizens and residents.

To mark this occasion, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Services Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality, Eng. Abdullah Ahmed Al Karani, highlighted that opening this park underscores the ministry’s keenness to advance public parks and gardens in accordance with world-class standards to be a healthy and recreational destination, as well as playgrounds for children and families.

He stated that the park is an addition to the recreation facilities in Al Markhiya to boost the services afforded to the residents there, highlighting that its location offers a chance for visitors to enjoy sporting and recreational activities in a secure environment, thereby optimising the quality of life and supporting those activities.

The park is situated on a total area of 24,000 sqm, of which 14,500 sqm equivalent to 60 percent of the parks overall space, are dedicated to green spaces.

Additionally, it is home to 273 native trees and 421 shrubs, thereby playing a pivotal role in promoting plant biodiversity and enhancing air quality.

By and large, the park offers a designated walking path extending over 585m, alongside a running track measuring 671m in length and is fully outfitted with outdoor fitness area spanning 85 sqm for exercises.

There is also a cycling path, extending 687m to ensure a safe environment for cyclists. A 454sqm children’s play area divided into sections for children under five and those aged six to twelve, with the highest standards of safety and recreation.

In addition, it is outfitted with facilities such as restrooms, seating, and 44 parking spaces, ensuring easy access and making it an ideal destination for families and individuals. The park supports environmental sustainability by utilizing eco-friendly lighting.
