Doha: Qatar’s leading telecommunications operator has announced its 5G network ensured an unrivalled fan experience at the recent Amir Cup Final at Al Thumama World Cup Stadium, Doha.
The Al Thumama Stadium was enabled with 54 advanced 4G and 5G radio antennas supporting the latest technology and providing the ultimate in high data capacity. Network performance was outstanding, with a data traffic volume of 6.4TB, more than 192,000 voice calls, a voice call and data connection success rate of more than 99.9% and a call drop rate of less than 0.1%.
5G solutions were deployed in stadium hospitality and VVIP areas, providing extremely high speeds for Ooredoo customers. Peak download speeds crossed 1Gbps; a record for such a busy, loaded environment.
Mobile network coverage was enhanced by 5G Mobile Shelter, covering the parking zones around the stadium and the free zone metro station.
This connectivity and reliability meant event-goers were able to enjoy a fan experience never seen before. Overseeing the event were some 60 technical experts deployed on the ground at the stadium, monitoring and optimising the network to deliver a world-class experience and ensuring an awesome service for the customers.
