DOHA: Doha College students and teachers have chosen the new student leaders for 2015-16.
Principal Dr Steffen Sommer said he was extremely proud of the new student leadership team in secondary and primary.
“These students are outstanding ambassadors for Doha College and exemplary role models and I am sure the parents and Doha College community will join me in congratulating them on their appointment,” Dr Sommer said.
“Over the next year our student leaders will be attending events as representatives of the school.
“These prestigious positions come with great responsibility and are viewed with favour by universities and workplaces in Qatar and internationally.”
In secondary, Jess Harris is the new Head Girl and Thushan Puhalendran is Head Boy. Deputy Head Girl is Sophie Jago and Thomas Ayling, Deputy Head Boy.
Senior Prefects are Lucrezia Brunetti and Kane Bastick. Abigail Harder, Haya Muftah, Hiba Argane, Maria Velasquez, Lusizi Komakoma, Achintya Suden, Kartik Sharma, Michael Young, Sparsh Gupta and Zak Shameem are the new prefects.
In primary, Cooper Forde and Sienna Valdez were elected as the Al Waab campus Head Boy and Girl and Zarak Rahman and Isabella Caramanica at West Bay.
Vice Principal Head of Primary Mrs Christine Walker said the primary students voted after hearing speeches from each candidate.
“In their speeches the students touched on the importance of good leadership, developing an inclusive and friendly school environment and student involvement,” Mrs Walker said.
“We have extremely fortunate to have such committed students at our Al Waab and West Bay campuses.”
In the secondary school, students are nominated and staff cast a final vote while in primary school students from Year 3-6 nominate their preferred leaders.
Dr Sommer said the senior student leaders will undergo professional leadership development and coaching on public speaking as well as attend the annual Council of British Schools Leadership Conference, which was held in Madrid in last year.
