Dr. Cesar Malave, Dean Texas A&M University at Qatar
Doha, Qatar: Qatar Foundation partner campus Texas A&M University at Qatar (Texas A&M at Qatar) is poised to build on the strength of existing programmes and expertise.
The campus aims to become a powerful hub for teaching, learning, and research that meets the unique needs of the country and the region, said Texas A&M at Qatar Dean Dr. César Malavé.
“Texas A&M University at Qatar embarks on its third decade. The campus’s focus has sharpened to emphasize innovative engineering education and applied research, with a clear emphasis on generating economic impact within Qatar’s industry,” he told The Peninsula.
He said the five strategic priority areas of the campus encompass excellence in engineering education, amplifying research influence, facilitating student mobility within Education City and between Doha and College Station, taking multiversity leadership to new heights, and fostering a knowledge economy.
Texas A&M at Qatar is dedicated to nurturing the future engineering leaders of Qatar and the region. It focuses on fostering creative minds who lead the way in making positive changes in the world.
“We aim to continue delivering engineering excellence to all our stakeholders, aiding Qatar in discovering pivotal solutions for its grand challenges in energy, water and the environment. Texas A&M at Qatar engineers will not just have superior technical perspectives but also acquire other essential skills crucial for achieving success,” said Dr. Malavé.
“We will continue to build collaborations with government and industry partners, aiming for a positive societal impact on a broad scale. Our commitment extends to the continuous design of courses, workshops, and conferences, geared toward enriching professional technical knowledge through advanced studies,” he added.
Texas A&M at Qatar has graduated more than 1,500 students across four undergraduate engineering disciplines — chemical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and petroleum engineering. The program extends to include two master’s degrees in chemical engineering.
“Students at our Qatar campus receive an identical curriculum to that offered at our flagship campus in College Station, Texas, while also gaining diverse opportunities for research engagement in both Doh and College Station. A large percentage of our students experience student life at the flagship campus during their study-abroad trips or other student exchanges,” said Dr.Malavé.
“What truly sets our students apart is our emphasis on cultivating the complete engineer, rather than focusing solely on technical knowledge,” he said.
At Texas A&M at Qatar alongside their technical education, students undergo rigorous training in vital professional skills, such as communication, leadership, critical thinking and negotiation.
“Texas A&M students are called Aggies, and the Aggie core values of respect, excellence, leadership, loyalty, integrity and selfless service are instilled in each of our students. This comprehensive approach equips them to become engineering leaders not only within Qatar but also across the broader region,” said Dr.Malavé.
