Doha: The 29-day Marmi festival concludes today at Katara with the Qirnas Shaheen competition and Al Mazzain, an international competition for the beautiful falcons.

Falcons were received yesterday for the said two competitions for inspection and sorting. The Qirnas Shaheen competition is set on two free categories – Wahash and Tarfeekh. The closing ceremonies today will be open to public from 12:30pm to 3pm.

People can get to watch and view the rarest and most beautiful falcons.

In a speech delivered during the finals of Hadad Al Tahadi competition at Sealine, General Manager of Cultural Village Foundation, Katara Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti said the aim of organising various cultural festivals including Marmi is to enhance the identity, heritage and Qatari authentic heritage.

General Manager of Katara, Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, explained that they have succeeded in this objective where they noticed the interest of Qatari youth in this festival.

Around 1,400 falcons participated during the 13th edition of the festival.

Furthermore, Dr. Al Sulaiti disclosed that Marmi and other festivals like Qalayel Championship which is sponsored by Katara confirmed the keenness of his foundation to develop and refine the skills of national cadres in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 aimed to preserve heritage and promote Arab and Islamic values and identity, especially as they are not practicing unfair hunting.

The festival has also become a tourist attraction for visitors as it gained a wide audience, he concluded.

For his part, Al Gannas Society President and Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Marmi Festival Ali bin Khatam Al Mahshadi said that the festival in its 13th edition was brilliant and more successful in terms of the numbers participating, both in Qatar and GCC countries wherein everyone dominated the competition in a spirit of brotherhood, which achieves the goal of the festival in preserving the Qatari and Gulf heritage as a global heritage.

Qatar International Falcons and Hunting Festival, popularly known as Marmi, is one of the largest festivals in the specialised field of falcons and hunting in the region.
