Doha: The College of Engineering and Student Activities Department-Student Clubs and Organizations Section at Qatar University (QU), has launched the student Chapter of the Arab Association for Cyber Security (AACS) to enhance the role of students in cybersecurity systems and discuss future challenges in the field. The association will also discuss cooperation mechanisms that will help establish joint research and programmes in this field.

In his speech, Dr. Khaled Kamal Naji, College of Engineering said, “This new student initiative aims to raise awareness of the importance of cyber security at the level of individuals and institutions, especially since the commission of cyber-crimes. Until recently, it was limited to individuals or small groups, but with the expansion of the Internet, these crimes have become more complex and widespread, as they managed to cause great damage to companies and institutions.”

He added, “The launch of this student branch comes after the announcement of AACS last year to promote joint Arab action in the field of cybersecurity research support and to find solutions for present challenges, in addition to establishing joint research and programmes in this field.”

Prof. Dr. Abdel Majid bin Amara, the Secretary General of the Union of Arab Scientific Research Councils said the AACS is one of the most important links, as it includes specialists in cybersecurity, and its interest in fostering cooperation between Arab scientists and researchers. The AACS also focuses on finding opportunities to build and develop capacities, train young researchers in the Arab world, and encourage the establishment of specialised and joint centers.
