In order to boost productivity and provide comprehensive service to the public, the General Authority of Customs ensures its officials across all its departments are provided with the latest training and education, an official has disclosed.

In an interview in the monthly Customs newsletter, the Head of the Training and Continuing Education Department, Mubarak Al Buainain, said that the Customs Training Centre consists of the Training and Continuing Education Department and the Curriculum and Training Impact Assessment Department which oversees preparations for the annual training plan for the GAC employees, based on the needs.

According to Al Buainain, training cards for all job titles, preparing and implementing specialised internal training programmes and courses and participation in implementing regional training programmes approved by the World Customs Organization are all coordinated by the Curriculum and Training Impact Assessment Department.

He added that GAC employees are also nominated for courses, training programmes and workshops held inside or outside the country. At the same time, Customs also implements training programmes for brokers and interested parties from the public and private sectors.

“The Customs Training Centre supports capacity-building programmes for the Authority’s employees and the region’s countries. The annual training plan for the Authority’s employees and a regional training plan is prepared based on the training needs identified by the concerned administrative unit and the various administrations of the Authority,” Al Buainain stated.

“It raises efficiency for the employees to protect society and the environment and reduce commercial fraud, in addition to providing employees with the necessary skills to provide customs services according to the highest international practices,” he added.

Regarding applications for these courses, Al Buainain said employees are nominated according to their career path.

They have to register for training courses through the self-service (Mawared App) before the Head of the Training and Continuing Education Department approves. For specialised courses, employees can submit through the Mawared app.

Speaking about the capacity of the new customs training center, Al Buainain said that the centre has 12 training halls in addition to four training halls in the Authority’s main building. He added that the GAC has annual contracts with top hotels for 17 halls that can accommodate 644 trainees at the same time. He conveyed that the halls include computer, lecture, and workshop halls.

Meanwhile, the GAC announced it released 265,653 completed data in March. The Air Cargo Customs and Private Airports Administration completed 225,991 data.
