Doha, Qatar: Assistant Undersecretary for Education Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Maha Al Ruwaili underlined that summer centres are places for refining talents and skills as they provide purposeful and diverse educational activities during the summer vacation in the centres affiliated with the Ministry for the benefit of the students.

In a statement to QNA, Al Ruwaili noted the important role of summer camps in directing students' energy and filling their summer holidays with useful activities, while giving them the chance to entertain themselves after the hardship of an academic year.

She added that summer camps contribute positively to discovering talents, refining skills, and investing time; noting that this period of the year is sufficient for recreation, entertainment, and renewal of morale, and presents a great opportunity to reveal students’ talents and qualify them educationally, scientifically, culturally, socially and behaviourally, through targeted summer programmes.

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education recently launched the Summer Centers Program for the second year in a row. The programme will continue until August 16 in a number of centres for boys and girls.

According to Al Ruwaili, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, in cooperation with the Ministry of Sports and Youth, allocated 5 centres for male students and two centres for female students, located in various parts of the country.

She noted that the number of students registered so far on the electronic system and the actual registration in the summer centres has reached nearly 2,000 male and female students from different educational stages, including Qatari children and residents, as well as Qataris in private schools. These centres offer various and purposeful activities in all fields to meet the interests of students and fill their spare time.

The Assistant Undersecretary for Education Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education added that summer camps play a prominent role in directing the energies of students and their parents, filling their summer with fun and useful things, while giving them the chance for entertainment. Therefore, it is an opportunity for parents to participate, discover talents and communicate and also for the benefit of the students.

She added that parents can coordinate with those in charge of the centres to participate in providing useful information to students through lectures, specialised workshops and useful lessons, according to the procedures followed in such cases; stressing the keenness of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to activate the educational and social role of parents.

Al Ruwaili appreciated the contributions of the parties participating in the activities of summer centres, in particular the Ministry of Sports and Youth, in addition to the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, the Department of Family Empowerment at the Ministry of Social Development and the Family, and other public and private state institutions, to present a number of sports and cultural activities and various competitions, in addition to public lectures and workshops to provide students with useful information and self-motivating practices.

Al Ruwaili mentioned in her statement to QNA the safety measures and arrangements adopted by the Ministry to ensure the safety and security of students during their summer activities, affirming that the Ministry attaches great importance to this aspect.

She added that the Ministry of Education and Higher Education gives priority to students of all age categories because students represent one of the criteria by which society’s progress is measured. Caring for students, whether in schools or summer camps, is caring for the future of the nation and the coming generations to develop their capabilities to face the challenges and requirements of the rapid developments in the Qatari march, she stressed.

Assistant Undersecretary for Education Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Maha Al Ruwaili underlined that summer centres have a positive role in discovering talents, refining skills, and investing time. They are systematic directions for developing skills, motivating student ideas, and directing them to the right path, by consolidating national values and identity. Accordingly, summer camps are not simply events and activities, but rather educational incubators that instil culture, knowledge, teamwork and cooperative spirit.
