Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) will mark César Franck’s 200th birth anniversary with a concert on March 5, at Qatar National Convention Centre.
QPO said: “This concert includes Bizet’s Symphony No. 1 in C major, which he wrote it when he was 17, hid it away in a drawer and told no one about it. Join the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra for an evening of sensation with the leading conductor Marcus Bosch.”
Franck, who was born on December 10, 1822, is a Belgian-French Romantic composer, pianist, organist and music teacher. According to Encyclopedia Britannica, he was the chief figure in a movement to give French music an emotional engagement, technical solidity, and seriousness comparable to that of German composers.
His Symphony in D Minor (1888), Variations symphoniques (1885), Piano Quintet in F Minor (1879), String Quartet in D Major (1889), Sonata in A Major for Violin and Piano (1886), and several organ pieces mark him as one of the most powerful French composers in the second half of the 19th century. His music is marked by soaring, almost improvisatory melodic flights.
The programme will play Georges Bizet: Symphony No. 1 in C Major and César Franck: Symphony in D minor. Conductor of the concert is Marcus Bosch.
And there will be no intermission.
Bosch is one of the most distinguished and innovative minds on the German conducting scene and a highly sought after conductor worldwide.
In 2020/21 he was appointed chief conductor of the Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock and has been artistic director of the Opernfestspiele Heidenheim since 2010, which has become one of the largest and most successful opera festivals in recent years, not least due to the award winning orchestra, Cappella Aquileia founded by Bosch himself. His current orchestral projects take him to Essen, Stuttgart, Constance - all in Germany; Vienna in Austria; Athens in Greece; Palermo and Milan in Italy; Belgrade in Serbia; and here in Qatar.
Only vaccinated individuals can attend the concert which will be at 7:30pm. Tickets can be purchased at QPO’s website. Price for upper orchestra is QR150, while for front and middle orchestra is at QR175.
