Doha, Qatar: As part of Qatar Red Crescent Society’s (QRCS) interventions in Afghanistan, a basic health centre (BHC) for maternal and child health has been inaugurated in Karz, Kandahar Province.
The new centre will provide basic health services for about 18,720 people of the village and neighbouring areas, especially maternal and child health services, including pregnancy care, obstetric and emergency obstetric care, postnatal care, vaccination, family medicine, nutrition, health education, medical examination, and provision of essential medications free of charge.
Under the project, the 11-room health centre was constructed and furnished with medical and non-medical equipment. It will be operated by QRCS for 12 months, in conformity with the Afghan Ministry of Public Health’s (MoPH) Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) guide.
This includes staffing, training, capacity-building, essential medications, operational expenses, outdoor activities, and stronger supervision. Costing $243,419 (QR887,262), the project is implemented in partnership with the Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS), MoPH in Kandahar, and provincial/district authorities.
