Doha: It’s been 50 days since the neighbouring Gulf States imposed the blockade on Qatar.

To show their support and solidarity with the country, citizens and expats have taken to twitter with hashtag  #FiftyDaysSinceTheSiege.

This hashtag has been trending in Qatar and even internationally renowned Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei‏ has tweeted in support of Qatar.

“Stand with Qatar. Today is the 50th day that the nation is under siege. #fiftydayssincethesiege,” the well-respected artist tweeted.

Chairman of Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani and Chairperson of Qatar Museums, H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani also tweeted with the #fiftydayssincethesiege hashtag.

Many Qataris were tweeting with the hashtag to show their support to the leadership, country and also thaking people who stood by Qatar.

On June 5, the neighbouring countries Saudi Arabia, UAE and Bahrain announced a land and air blockade against Qatar and ordered Qatari citizens to leave the country.

This took every one in Qatar and international community by surprise as the blockading nations were not able to provide any proof for their wild accusation against Qatar of supporting extremism or Iran.

Qatar government was quick to act and found new trade routes and stood tall against the illegal siege.
