Doha, Qatar: Hamad Medical Corporation’s Hamad Trauma Center, in collaboration with the Department of Medical Education, has successfully completed the 3rd DSTCTM (Definitive Surgical Trauma Care), DATC (Definitive Anesthetic Trauma Care), and DpNTC (Definitive Perioperative Nurses Trauma Care) courses.

These programs were conducted in conjunction with the World Health Organization (WHO) War Surgery Program from 3 to 6 February, 2025, at HMC’s Itqan Clinical Simulation and Innovation Center.

Designed to enhance the skills and expertise of surgeons, anesthesiologists, anesthesia technicians, intensivists, and perioperative and trauma nurses, these advanced courses brought together 44 participants from both civilian and military backgrounds. Attendees included professionals from the Qatar Red Crescent, GCC countries, the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMRO), and regions affected by natural disasters and conflicts. Participants praised the comprehensive content, expert-led instruction, and the immersive learning experience.

The courses were led by a distinguished faculty of surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses from HMC, with special contributions from Sidra Medicine (pediatric surgery), HMC orthopedics, neurosurgery, and plastic surgery departments, as well as international professors. The program fostered a dynamic learning environment that emphasized collaboration and knowledge-sharing among global trauma care experts.

During the opening session, course director Prof. Dr. Ruben Peralta, Program Director of Advanced Trauma Education, Fellowship Program, and Deputy Trauma Medical Director, along with Prof. Dr. Sandro Rizoli, Trauma Medical Director at Hamad Trauma Center, welcomed participants and faculty. They encouraged attendees to engage actively, exchange expertise, and address real-world challenges in trauma care.

“These courses play a critical role in strengthening trauma care capabilities worldwide, particularly in regions affected by disasters and conflicts. By fostering collaboration among global healthcare professionals, we enhance the quality of trauma care and ultimately improve patient outcomes,” said Dr. Peralta.
