Doha, Qatar: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has launched a medical convoy to treat eye diseases in Khartoum, Sudan, as part of the “Noor” anti-blindness project implemented in partnership with the Al Basar International Foundation and the Federal Ministry of Health (MoH).
The medical convoy’s involves eye examinations, eyeglasses, medications, and cataract surgeries, for the benefit of more than 4,000 patients in Karary District, Khartoum State.
Dr. Amir Abu Groun, Director of General Projects Department at the Al Basar International Foundation, said QRCS was the first organization to reach out to Karary and provide opthalmology eye disease treatment and surgery services, which had been suspended for two years due to the war. According to him, there are numerous people in dire need of such free-of-charge services, amid the current circumstances. He thanked QRCS for their efforts and services for the people of Sudan. One of the beneficiaries is Al-Tayeb Mohamed, who told his story: “My cataract made me unable to work or support my family, amid the current war. I would like to thank QRCS for this opportunity. I am happy to receive treatment, and I am happy I can work and live normally again”.
Dr. Salah Daak, head of QRCS office in Sudan, explained that QRCS had already completed three medical convoys to treat eye diseases over the past three months in Al-Qadarif and Red Sea States.
