Trainers take their horses for warm-up sessions at Qatar Equestrian Federation’s (QEF) outdoor arena in Doha yesterday. Competitions at the same venue will start at 11:30am today.

DOHA: The Qatar Equestrian Federation (QEF) and Al Emadi Enterprises yesterday a sponsorship deal ahead of this week’s Qatar International Show Jumping Championship.
Hamad bin Abdulrahman Al Attiyah, President of QEF, and Mohammed Al Emadi, CEO, Al Emadi Enterprises, yesterday put pen to paper at QEF headquarters.
Al Emadi said: “Regarding the sponsorship, we are not associating ourselves with this event for  nothing. We feel that they (QEF) stage a lot of successful events - here in Doha and overseas. They organise hugely popular top events very professionally.”
He added: “We feel the private sector should back all sports events, especially horse racing and show jumping because riding is close to our heart. It is part of our culture.”
Al Emadi said sponsoring events related to horse racing and show jumping was close to Al Emadi Enterprises. “The private sector has to be at all events. It is not about making money. But we have to take part in equal measure,” Al Emadi said.
“Yes, we know this is a government event but we have to be equal participants for the sport to grow. After all we are doing something for our country. We can’t just say ‘we love our country’. When we say that we have to show support and mean what we say,” he said.
“We believe that our words should be translated into action. We select this line (horse racing) because Qatar does a great job in Paris and in events held in Doha. The world talks about our events held in Paris. We are proud to be part of this success,” he explained.
Al Attiyah said: “We are delighted to have the support of Al Emadi Enterprises for this event and Al Rayyan Show Jumping Championship (Jan 1 to 3). We believe these two events will be another extension of our desire to promote show jumping in Qatar.”
