LIMA, Peru: Flamengo, the new champion of the Copa Libertadores, will head to Qatar next month for the Club World Cup as they won its second South American title in dramatic fashion when it produced two last-gasp goals to overcome defending champion River Plate 2-1 in the final on Saturday in Lima.
Flamengo joins Liverpool FC, Al-Sadd, Espérance Sportive de Tunis, Monterrey, Hienghène Sport and Al Hilal in the Club World Cup, which will kick off in Qatar on December 11.
Flamengo are through to the semi-final of the tournament and will play their first match on December 17 at Khalifa International Stadium.
Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal beat Urawa Red Diamonds 2-0 on Sunday to claim Asian club title in the AFC Champions League and qualified for the Club World Cup.
