UPDATE: All outlets of Family Food centre and Family Mart have also joined the campaign and is removing all French products from their shelves.
Doha: More shopping centres and delivery apps has joined the campaign to remove French products from their shelves and apps in solidarity with the boycott French products campaign.
The move comes after many people on social media platforms called for boycott of French products after a recent speech by French President Emmanuel Macron.
New Indian Supermarket and Retailmart Hypermarket announced today that they have started withdrawing French Products from all its branches in response to customers’ call for boycott of French products. Earlier Al Meera had also announced that it had started withdrawing French Products from its branches.
In a press release, the New Indian Supermarket and Retailmart Hypermarket management said, "We started to withdraw all French products from all our outlets, as a company we are always committed to meet the aspiration of our customers and always value the faith, custom and tradition of our great legacy".
On its social media account, Al Rawnaq also made a similar announcement stating the withdrawal of French products from all its branches until further notice.
"We emphasize that we, as a national company, work according to a vision consistent with our true religion, our established customs and traditions, in a way that serves our country and our faith and meets the aspirations of our customers," the post added.
Qatar Shopping Complex in Al Markhiya and Souq Al Baladi in Abu Hamour also made similar announcements on their social media.
Local delivery apps Snoonu and QTamween also joined the campaign to boycott French products and started removing these items from their websites and apps.
Al-Wajba Factory announced “solidarity with boycott French products campaign” and vowed to provide alternative dairy products in short time.
On Friday Al Meera Consumer Goods had announced that it had started withdrawing French products from its branches, followed by the postponement of a French Cultural Week event at Qatar University.
