Doha, Qatar: Discover Qatar (DQ), the destination management company of Qatar Airways, is making great strides in boosting educational tourism in Qatar through initiatives including the World Scholar’s Cup (WSC), which started on Thursday and will run until June 27 at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC).

This academic competition brings over 1,800 students from 30 countries including Asian, African, and European and GCC countries to compete in various academic facets.

Empowering the creators of the future, Discover Qatar conducts Education Tours in Qatar to showcase its world-class education infrastructure, highlighting its unique educational landscape, and presenting Qatar as the leading destination for diverse academic disciplines. DQ has customised special cultural tours for the Scholars of WSC to bring to the forefront Qatar’s vibrant and safe environment.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, H E Akbar Al Baker said: “Hosting the country’s first World Scholar’s Cup not only solidifies Qatar as a dynamic destination for a wide array of events, but also reaffirms its role in furthering education for global communities. I am delighted to welcome WSC to Qatar’s ever-growing portfolio of exciting events for all, and wish all participants the best of luck in the competition.”

Founder and CEO of The World Scholar’s Cup, Daniel Berdichevsky said: “We are very pleased that over 1,800 participants from 30 countries will be joining us at the World Scholar’s Cup Global Round in Doha. It’s been four years since we first contemplated holding one of our flagship Global Rounds in Qatar, then, of course, came 2020. But the moment it was possible to bring the world together again, we knew Doha would be an ideal place for it. There is no other place more global, or as gracious in its welcome than Qatar.”

The World Scholar’s Cup is taking place at QNCC, one of the world’s most comprehensive and technologically advanced event venues.

All participants will compete in the academic events such as Team Debates, Collaborative Writing, Scholar’s Challenge and the Scholar’s Bowl.

DQ will further lead a team-building activity at Doha Quest for the participants, followed by a Cultural Fair in which all delegations will share and celebrate their traditions through food, art and crafts, as well as a Scholar’s Ball for students to celebrate the thrilling conclusion of the World Scholar’s Cup.

WSC is an inclusive enrichment programme that brings together students from different countries to celebrate diversity as well as shared values amongst communities from all corners of the world.
