The School of Economics, Administration, and Public Policies at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies is organizing a scientific trip to Switzerland - Geneva, for its students from the Executive Program in Diplomatic Studies and International Cooperation (first cohort) during the period from 23 to 27 May 2022.
During the trip, students will familiarize themselves with the working environment and methods of international organizations, including (the United Nations Organization, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the International Trade Organization, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees).
Students will also observe the interaction that takes place within these organizations between member states, and how international relations and interests are managed. During this visit, they will learn about the experience of the Qatari mission in Geneva and its experiences in cooperation with international organizations.
Accompanying the students on this trip from the Doha Institute are Eman Al-Sulaiti, Executive Director of the Administrative and Financial Sector at the Institute, Dr. Marwan Qabalan, Head of the Executive Program in Diplomatic Studies and International Cooperation, and Muhammad Al-Etter, Administrative Supervisor of Executive Programs.
For her part, Eman Al-Sulaiti pointed out the importance of this trip, which comes in the context of connecting the academic and practical aspects, adding that this trip helps students develop their skills, expand their knowledge in the field of specialization, and learn about successful practices of international institutions.
Director of the Diplomatic Institute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Hor highly valued this trip and the participation of students of the Executive Master in Diplomatic Studies and International Cooperation who are diplomats and employees in MOFA. He stressed the importance of these educational trips, which open a window for the program’s affiliate to view and learn about best practices and global experiences and provides the opportunity for direct meetings with decision-makers in major international institutions.
On the first day of the trip, the students visited the headquarters of the United Nations in Geneva and learned about its history and origin, the memorials scattered around it, the services available in it, and the most prominent diplomatic activities that the headquarters witnessed over the past decades. At the conclusion of the visit, students attended a lecture on "The United Nations Headquarters in Geneva: A Center for Multilateral Diplomacy."
