Leading timepiece and diamond jewellery house Jacob & Co, has begun a momentous partnership with legendary football star Lionel Messi by introducing their first limited edition collection: The Epic X Chrono “Messi” watch.
To many soccer fans, Lionel Messi is the greatest player in the history of the beautiful game: nine-time champion of the Spanish soccer league, four-time winner of the European Champions’ League, five-time winner of the Ballon d’Or as the best player in the world, five-time winner of the Golden Boot as the top goal scorer in Europe, and winner of Olympic gold, Messi is widely admired for his speed on the attack, efficiency of motion, and breathtaking creativity.
Paying tribute to a player of this magnitude required a truly exceptional timepiece. Jacob & Co therefore designed the Epic X Chrono “Lionel Messi” to feature a polished grade-5 titanium case, anti-reflection sapphire glass, white ceramic chronograph bezel and buttons, titanium and blue-rubber horns, and red-rubber crowns. This eye-catching wonder is also water resistant to 200 meters, guaranteed shock resistant, and available in a strictly limited edition. Its immediately distinguishable light blue and white colour was derived from the flag of Argentina, which is Messi’s home country.
Naturally, Lionel Messi wanted to personalize his watch, so he put his iconic number 10 in red on the flange ring, his logo – a stylized M – on the dial at six o’clock, and his signature on the blue sapphire glass at the back of the case, which offers a view of the automatic bi-compax skeleton chronograph movement (JCAA05). This unique Jacob & Co. manufacturing gauge operating at 4 Hz reveals its sophistication with a column wheel and 48-hour power reserve.
The Epic X Chrono “Lionel Messi” marks the beginning of an exclusive three-year timepiece partnership between the football great and Jacob & Co. and will be the first of several limited edition designs to be released from the collaboration. At December 18th’s Golden Boot Gala, Messi sported the SF24 Tourbillon, the next watch model to be featured in a limited edition collection.
