Doha: Vishnu Saravanan of India won the Optimist Class at Sail the Gulf, the international regatta of Qatar Sailing and Rowing Federation.
Torstein Erlendsoenn Tenstad of Norway finished second while Mahesh Balachander came third in the four-day event which ended here yesterday. There was more success for the Indians with Ganapathy K Chengappa Varun and Ashok Thakkar, and the all-female pair of Varsha Gautham and Aishwarya Nedunchezhiyan finishing first and second in 29er.
Elsewhere, Ruben Heard of Saudi Arabia set aside stiff competition from Jacob Price of Great Britain to win in the Laser 4.7 class, while Ahmed Ragab of Egypt and Oman’s Hussain Said Al Jabri reigned supreme in the Laser Radial and Laser Standard categories respectively. Bahrian’s Chaabane Khemaies Mahdi and Abdulaziz Almahmeed clinched the top place in Hobie-16 in Qatar, while in 470, Darren Choy and Nathan Tang of Singapore finished on the top. tHE PENINSULA
