DOHA: Young kids as old as seven-year-olds took part in riding sessions held at the QMMF Children’s Academy inside Losail International Circuit yesterday.
Nasser bin Khalifa Al Attiyah, President, QMMF, was present during the riding sessions along with parents of the participating children.
During yesterday’s session - which was held from 11am to 3pm - scores of children wore customised helmets before riding bikes designed for kids falling between the 8 to 11 age bracket.
Before they got the first contact with the bike, all children were fully equipped with riding suits and safety equipment and were briefed by the instructor Mark Schulz.
Al Attiyah, who is also the Vice President of FIM, said: “The Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation keeps on running educational and safety awareness programmes to help young children understand the sport. We want to help them learn how to ride so that they improve their skills.” Al Attiyah added: “We are very happy to see that this project is growing and we hope that more schoolchildren approach us for riding lessons. This is a world-class facility that can help kids learn about the sport at a young age. I want to thank all parents who were here today with their children.
He explained: “I am happy to announce that from now on the Children’s Academy will be open every time that there is a Track Day at Losail International Circuit.”
Children yesterday got to ride two different kind of bikes to test their riding abilities in the 125cc and 50cc category bikes.
“After the session, all the children were very happy to take part in this session at the academy and had a lot of fun during the safety lessons,” a QMMF official said.
“At the end of the event, all children took home a photo frame with their pictures in the Riding Academy,” the official added.
