Minister of Culture, H E Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani and Chairperson of Qatar Museums H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani during a visit to the 31 Doha International Book Fair at the DECC yesterday.
Witnessing a massive success in terms of visitors’ interest and number of diverse cultural activities, the 31st Doha International Book Fair (DIBF) 2022 concluded yesterday.
The 10-day event was held at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC) from January 13 to 22, under strict COVID-19 preventive measures.
The largest-ever book fair held in Qatar, DIBF 2022, organised by the Ministry of Culture, featured 845 pavilions, 437 publishing houses, including 319 Arab and 45 foreign publishing houses, and 73 publishing houses for children’s books.
The book fair was also visited by many high-profile dignitaries including Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, Their Excellencies a number of Ministers, Ambassadors, writers and intellectuals.
Chairperson of Qatar Museums, H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, accompanied by Minister of Culture, H E Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday visited book fair.
During her visit to the book fair, Sheikha Al Mayassa was briefed on the cultural pavilions and various participating booths in the fair.
“I am glad to visit Doha International Book Fair to see the wide range of publishing houses and to meet Qatari and expatriate writers. I congratulate H E Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani and his team on the success of the book fair,” Sheikha Al Mayassa tweeted.
“I am happy for the visit of Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa to 31st Doha International Book Fair and the publishing houses participating in it. Her Excellency has always been, and still is attaching great importance towards arts and culture and supporting the cultural movement and cultural diversity,” the Minister of Culture tweeted.
Ambassador of Morocco to Qatar, H E Mohamed Setri, during his visit to the Book Fair yesterday, lauded the arrangement of the fair and the large number of participation.
“I am surprised to see the high level of participation in this excellent Doha International Book Fair. This is not new for Qatar which used to organise amazing events including book fair attracting exhibitors from Qatar and other countries of the world,” said the Ambassador of Morocco in a video footage posted on the Twitter account of the Ministry of Culture.
Ambassador of Haiti to Qatar, H E Jean Marie Francois Guillaume, said: “We are very thankful to be here and very much impressed of what has been taken place here. I am even more impressed to learn that this book fair is being held for 50 years.”
During his visit to the book fair yesterday, Haiti envoy said that a number of booths at the book fair demonstrating culture of Qatar, other countries of the world which are enriching.
“Hopefully next year, we will participate with a booth of Haiti Embassy to showcase the rich culture of Haiti. Thanks to organisers and Qatar for hospitality and success of the book fair,” said the Ambassador.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of National Press Center, H E Saad bin Muhammad Al Rumaihi, said that 31st DIBF was amazing reflecting hard work of organisers.
“It is a soul refreshing moment to see the large number of people including children and adults buying books,” said Al Rumaihi.
