Qatar University signs MoU with Spanish "4 Universities Alliance"

Qatar University signed a memorandum of understanding with the 4 Universities Alliance (A4U) - a strategic partnership between four leading Spanish public universities - within the framework of promoting the cooperation between the State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Spain in the higher education sector.

The MoU was signed by HE President of Qatar University Dr. Hassan bin Rashid Al Derham, and Vice President of the 4 Universities Alliance Dr. Juan Romo.

Established in 2008, the A4U includes Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM), Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M), and Pompeu Fabra University (UPF).

The MoU aims to strengthen relations in areas related to academic education, science and research, culture, human capital development, information and knowledge exchange, and any other aspects aimed at achieving international cooperation in higher education, in accordance with the legislation of the two countries.

According to the agreement, the scope of cooperation covers the establishment of collaborative research projects of mutual benefit between departments or institutes, research groups and faculty members, as well as the exchange of teaching staff for short and long-term visits for the purpose of research, teaching and presentation of seminars, and the exchange of graduate and undergraduate students.

The cooperation also includes joint supervision of graduate students from both sides, the establishment of dual university degree programs, and the exchange of information and knowledge about the best practices in higher education through regular dialogue and visits between members of institutions participating in this cooperation.

The MoU also includes determining the funding, training or any other type of cooperation opportunities, as well as developing joint programs, conferences, workshops and cultural seminars, and setting up training programs, seminars and other activities of common interest.
