Doha: The Department of Social Studies at the Department of Educational Guidance of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education organised concluding ceremony of Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani competition (Education Excellence).
Sponsored by Hassan Bin Thabet Secondary School for Boys, the competition aims to enhance the spirit of citizenship and national identity, instil concepts of teamwork among students and activate the use of modern technology.
A total of 18 students from 13 boys and girls schools qualified for the contest. The contestants were divided into two parts, an electronic competition and a written competition.
The competition bears the name of Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, one of the pioneering men of Qatar, the first Minister of Education of Qatar in 1957, and who was termed the ‘Father of Education’.
Addressing the concluding ceremony, Director of Department of Educational Guidance, Moza Al Madhahka, thanked school principals, teachers, students and mentors of the Department of Social Studies for their efforts for the success of the competition.
She said that their wonderful efforts have brought excellent results, running this competition in a better way and contributing to raising the academic achievement of students in the subject of social studies, history and geography in general and Qatari history in particular. “We congratulate the winning students and wish the largest number of students to participate in the coming years,” said Al Madhahka.
Head of the Social Studies Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Afrah Ahmed Al Riyashi, said: “I extend my heartfelt thanks to Hassan Bin Thabet Secondary School, headed by school director Ahmed Al Mahmoud for their sponsorship of this ceremony.”
She also congratulated students who won the competition and extended her best wishes for their success and excellence in future.
