Doha: Qatar University’s Laboratory Animal Research Centre (LARC) recently organised a training programme for undergraduate science and medical students titled “Anaesthesia and Analgesia in Laboratory Rodents- Module I: Basic Module” in the Research Complex at Qatar University.
The participating students learned the basics of anaesthesia and pain relievers used in experiments on laboratory rodents.
The training consisted of two parts — theoretical and hands-on training, which included basic instructions for anaesthesia, common methods of anaesthetising rodents, how to use the rodent anaesthetic device, injection methods, observation of rodents during anaesthesia operations, and the recovery and recovery phase after anaesthesia.
This training programme offered a great opportunity for Qatar University (QU) undergraduate students from QU Health, Biology, Environmental Sciences, and Chemistry programmes to gain knowledge about the basic methods of anaesthetics and analgesics for laboratory rodents, the correct choice of anaesthetic, and animal humane care during and after surgical procedures.
