Doha: The Private Education Affairs Sector of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, represented by the Department of Private Schools Affairs, and the Department of Heritage and Identity at the Ministry of Culture, have held several meetings to discuss cooperation in the implementation of activities and programmes on the Qatari heritage and identity in private schools and kindergartens during the 2022/2023 academic year.

The meetings reviewed a proposed plan that includes several activities and programmes in the field of identity and heritage, and mechanisms to implement them in private schools and kindergartens, to a detailed study of the proposal, while continuing efforts to follow up on the development of a comprehensive plan for its implementation in the next academic year.

These joint meetings between the officials of the two sides activate a previous meeting chaired by Director of the Heritage and Identity Department, Sheikha Najla bint Faisal Al Thani, and Director of the Department of Private Schools Affairs, Rashid Ahmed Al Ameri, where an employee from each side was allocated to coordinate and follow up the cooperation process to serve the common goals of the two parties.

In 2021, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education’s Private Education Affairs Sector issued the general framework for school activities and trips in private schools and kindergartens, to enhance classroom and extracurricular activities in various educational and developmental fields, and enrich students’ leisure time in a productive and useful way, focusing on activities that care about identity and heritage.

It also included private schools and kindergartens allocating 20 percent to programmes that promote national identity and Qatari heritage.

There are 334 private schools and kindergartens in Qatar, with 215,000 students at various school levels.

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education is keen on its strategy to ensure the consolidation of Qatari values and culture with the understanding of other cultures among all students, whether in public or private schools, at various school levels.
