Doha, Qatar: Aamal Company and Qatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation yesterday announced the launch of the ‘Aamal Ride’ cycling event scheduled for November 11, 2023. The event is part of Aamal’s initiatives to encourage the community’s participation in sports activities.
In a statement, Aamal Company stressed its commitment to actively contributing to the realisation of Qatar National Vision (QNV) 2030, particularly in human development, and playing a significant role in community development through collaboration with various public institutions leveraging their expertise in this field.
Speaking to the media yesterday during a press conference, the CEO of Aamal Company, Rashid bin Ali Al Mansouri said Aamal is committed to social responsibility and the cycling event would be part of its CSR activities. Al Mansouri added that sports is an essential tool to bring communities together because there’s room for everyone to participate.
“We have seen the technical proposal from the Federation, and there’ll be space for children and some part for amateurs to participate in this event. Our purpose is not to make it about professionals only but for the general public,” Al Mansouri noted, adding that they could upgrade the format in the coming years to include professional races.
Commenting on why Aamal Company partnered with the Cycling Federation, Al Mansouri said, “We see a lot of the importance of cycling and several cycling tracks have been built which are being used by many Qataris and residents. Also, the quality of the event they (the Federation) have organised in Qatar in the past gives us the confidence to partner with them.”
On the other hand, the President of the Qatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation Dr. Mohamed bin Jaham Al Kuwari, said cycling is the best sport for the community. He added that the Federation anticipates further collaboration with Aamal and other private sector entities in their shared efforts to realise the Federation’s vision for sports.
“There’s nothing better for the community than cycling. If you are 70 years old or even 80 years old, you can still cycle. If you are five years old, you can be on a bike. This sport is really for everyone -- there is a solution for every person and every age group. Choosing cycling for the community will make a big impact,” Dr. Al Kuwari said.
Secretary General of the Federation, Eng. Thani Al Zarraa said he hopes the strategic collaboration between the two entities continues for many years.
“We’re looking forward for it to happen yearly, covering all parts of the community, with opportunities for small kids and a family-oriented event, amateur riders and elite rider events.”
