QCS, Hour and Hour programme create awareness about cancer

Doha: The ‘Hour and Hour’ programme, in collaboration with the Qatar Cancer Society (QCS), successfully held the second edition of the “We Meet for Awareness” event on Tuesday, coinciding with the observance of World Cancer Day and the National Sport Day.

This initiative is designed to elevate public awareness regarding cancer, promote a culture of early detection, and highlight the significance of sports in fostering public health and disease prevention. 

The event attracted a diverse audience, including experts from the health, sports, and technology sectors, and saw substantial participation from various community groups. A notable highlight was the unveiling of the ‘Window of Hope’ logo.

Among the distinguished attendees were Chairman of the Qatar Cancer Society  Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Jabor Al Thani, and CEO of the ‘Hour and Hour’ programme Tamani Al Yafei, along with other esteemed guests. 

Sheikh Dr. Khalid emphasised the QCS’s commitment to the “We Meet for Awareness” event for the second consecutive year, recognising it as a vital initiative to bolster community understanding of cancer and the critical nature of early detection. He underscored the importance of forming effective partnerships with various organizations to disseminate awareness and enhance cancer prevention efforts across all segments of society.He lauded the awareness efforts made by the ‘Hour and Hour’ programme in spreading awareness and promoting the culture of early screening, as awareness is our key to overcoming this disease.

Al Yafei expressed her commitment to fostering a sense of hope through the organisation of this event. She aimed to celebrate success stories and emphasize the scientific and technological advancements in the fight against the disease. Al Yafei highlighted that the involvement of a distinguished group of specialists, creatives, athletes, and individuals in recovery, whose narratives exemplify strength and resilience, significantly enhanced the event’s impact and resonance with the audience.

Al Yafei explained that the event received international participation through some embassies that attended and presented important messages of steadfastness and awareness. 

She stressed that "Window of Hope" succeeded in achieving its awareness message, while emphasizing the continuation of efforts to enhance the culture of early detection and prevention, and support patients and their families. 

She also thanked and appreciated the Westin Doha Hotel for hosting the event and for granting the "Hour by Hour" programme the space in which the event was organised.
