The  Ministry  of  Municipality  inaugurated  Al Mazroua Yard, which will sell local produce in Umm Salal Central Market.

The inauguration took place in the presence of a number of officials  from  the  Ministry  of  Municipality,  the  Ministry  of  Commerce  and  Industry,  and  Hassad Food, yesterday.

Minister of Municipality  H   E   Dr.   Eng.   Abdullah   bin   Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaei said that  the  ministry  is  currently  working  on  assigning  Hassad  Food with its agricultural services in order to improve the service in line with the best standards. These services include the pro-vision  of  fertilisers  and  seeds  among other services.

The Minister of Municipality added that the opening of the Al Mazroua Yard in its new location in the Umm Salal Central Market came in order to encourage ini-tiatives that support Qatari farms and food security, adding that the presence of the yard within an integrated market that includes vegetables,  fish  and  meat  will  give incentives to consumers to visit more regularly.

The minister expressed hope that the initiatives put forward by the  ministry  will  preserve  the  gains local agriculture have made in  recent  times  and  advance  towards achieving the state’s food security goals.

He  noted  that  the  yards  for  selling  local  produce  plays  an  important role in marketing the products  of  Qatari  farms  as  it  helps producers reach consumers directly,  and  contribute  to  the  completion  of  the  food  supply chain in the country, indicating that  the  presence  of  the  yard  inside  the  Umm  Salal  Central  Market is attractive to consumers, pointing out that application of this  experience  in  Al  Wakra  Square, where work is underway to transfer it to a place that better serves consumers and includes integrated services.

On the sidelines of the inau-guration, the Ministry of Munici-pality and Hassad Food signed an agreement   to   market   farm   products for the coming agricultural season.
