A sci-fi/fantasy television series created by Qatari filmmaker Ahmed Al Baker and shot in Qatar will be premiered at Comic-Con 2017 on Thursday, July 20.
Medinah, the first international sci-fi/fantasy television series to be made in Middle East, is also the first show from the region to be premiered at a Comic Con.
Ahmed Al Baker is a self-taught filmmaker who made his debut with the sci-fi adventure ‘The Package: Volume 1’, which he wrote, produced and directed. Later He co-directed Lockdown: Red Moon Escape, which was shown in the made in Qatar section of the Doha Tribecca Film Festival 2012.
The first look of Medinah, which is in English and Arabic (with subtitles), was released recently and it created a lot of buzz among the sci-fi fans in Doha as the drama unfolds with Qatar as background.

According to a post on the show’s Facebook page the show’s creative team’s credits include Smallville, Battlestar Galactica, Jigsaw, 12 Monkeys, Drone and A Good Day To Die Hard.
It is not known on which networks or when the TV show will be broadcast.
“We will be announcing the date and network after our Premiere at Comic-Con,” they said on social media.
According to a write up by Broadway World “this mind-bending series is partly set in a near-future Qatar, begins after a rocket, designed to disperse thousands of metric tons of sulfur dioxide into Earth's stratosphere to offset the greenhouse effect that has caused the global warming crisis, inexplicably fails and crashes.”
In the subsequent aftermath, we are introduced to an international cast of survivors - both human, and "human-like". As they face monsters, nightmares, parallel realities and their own personal demons, these heroes must decide what is most important: Survival? Legacy? Love?
Medinah's cast includes Academy Award nominee Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight, The Expendables), sci-fi icon Natasha Henstridge (Species, Beauty and the Beast), Rick Ravanello (Criminal Minds, NCIS), Tamoh Penikett (Battlestar Galactica, Dollhouse), Eyad Hourani (Omar, Rattle the Cage), Hemwant Tiwari and Mohammed Al Hamadi.
