Doha, Qatar: Qatar University (QU) held a reception ceremony to welcome its new president, Dr. Omar Al Ansari, and also to appreciate the outgoing president, Dr. Hassan Al Derham. A large number of deputy presidents, college deans, faculty members, administrators, and invitees attended the ceremony.
In his speech, Dr. Al Ansari praised Dr. Al Derham for his accomplishments in developing academic prograammes, university infrastructure, and effective and flexible handling of crises such as the blockade and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Al Ansari discussed his relationship and collaboration with Dr. Al Derham during the leadership of Dr. Abdullah Jumah Al Kubaisi. They also worked with Sheikha Abdulla Al Misnad during her tenure and contributed to the university’s journey. Dr. Al Ansari spoke about his vision for QU, emphasising his commitment to continue the achievements made so far. “All previous university presidents have contributed to this construction and have brought the university to the high level of development it has reached today in various fields,” Dr. Al Ansari said, adding that several aspects will focus on including institutional effectiveness, quality of education, entrepreneurship and innovation, information technology, raising the university’s ranking, and increasing its institutional credits.
Dr. Al Ansari expressed his commitment to the university’s best interests, its targeted audience, and serving the Qatari community. He emphasised that any changes to be implemented will primarily focus on improving academic work and enhancing performance based on well-studied foundations. These changes will be made after consulting with stakeholders and officials in different roles within the university.
