Doha: Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), has welcomed a group of the country’s most promising undergraduate students to its Summer Internship Programme. The students are from Qatar University, HBKU, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, Texas A&M at Qatar, Northwestern University in Qatar, the University of Doha for Science and Technology, as well as Princeton University.

Following two successful virtual editions, the group of interns once again have an opportunity to gain first-hand experience under the guidance of QCRI’s world-leading engineers and research scientists at its state-of-the-art research facility over the summer.

The intensive eight-week programme, which runs from May 15 to July 7,  is engaging the students in research and software development training in the fields of Arabic Language Technologies, Cyber Security, Data Analytics, Social Computing and Software Engineering. Students select the research area that matches their interest and gain hands-on experience working with QCRI’s world-class  scientists and software engineers on one of QCRI’s research projects.

The programme will offer mentorship and hands-on training in research and scientific processes, testing of new technology, data analysis, and other important areas.

“Helping to grow Qatar’s knowledge economy begins with developing the next generation of scientists and their advanced computing skills. Our summer interns have this chance to gain real-world, applied experience in a high-impact environment to begin making the transition from academic knowledge to practice,” said Dr. Eman Fituri, Director of Educational Initiatives, QCRI.
