Fire Station announces residents for 7th Artist in Residence Programme

The Fire Station has announced the resident artists for the seventh edition of its Artist in Residence (AIR) Programme for the year 2022-2023.

Fifteen artists make up the batch for the year including: Abdulaziz Yousef, Abdulrahman Al Muftah, Arman Mansouri, Aya Battiri, Charlene Kasdorf, Fatima Javed, Hind Al Obaidli, Lucy Martin, Luke Webb.

Also, Mohammed A. Alhamadi, N&LS , Noor Al-Kharaan, Sharefa Al Mannai, Simon Mortimer and Yousef Fakhroo started their residency yesterday. 
The Fire Station shared the announcement via its official social media channels.

Fatima Javed, among the artists selected said in an Instagram post that it is her dream come true to be part of the programme. 

“I made it as one of the artist resident in the prestigious institution at Doha Fire Station. Thank you for this great opportunity. So excited!.” Javed is a ceramic sculptor.

Launched in 2015, the Artist in Residence is a nine-month programme for artists residing and working in Qatar. Each year, from September to June, they are given a studio space at the Fire Station building as part of the programme. 

The residency offers artists the chance to advance their artistic practices. It provides networking opportunities, mentorship, collaboration with curators and visiting critics, open studios, and access to the building’s amenities including the woodshop and fabrication lab.

Meanwhile, Majaz: Contemporary Art Qatar, an exhibition featuring works of AIR alumni from 2015 to 2021, is currently running at Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art.

The exhibition featured a total of 39 artists are presenting over 80 pieces in a variety of disciplines, including painting, sculpture, and new media, while examining various points of view and reflections to convey personal, cultural, and global concepts.

The artworks will be on exhibit in conversation with one another, stressing different aspects of narrative. The exhibition is curated by Saida Al Khulaifi, Acting Head of Residency Programmes and Amal Zeyad Ali, Exhibitions Coordinator at the Fire Station. It will run until February 25, 2023.
