To enhance state efforts on sustainability, a ministerial decision has been issued making mandatory for  companies and other entities carrying commercial activities to provide containers for their wastes and sort them out into recyclable materials and organic waste before disposing them off.

This came in a decision of the Minister of Municipality and Environment numbered 170 of 2021 for sorting out solid waste. The decision has been published in the Official Gazette No. 11 issued on September 14, 2021.

The Ministry of Justice has shared the Official Gazette on its Twitter account.

According to the decision, it is mandatory for companies, institutions, commercial and housing complexes, hotels, commercial, industrial outlets and building operators, except homes, to provide and use enough number of containers for collecting wastes resulting from their activities.

They should sort out their wastes and throw it in two types of standard containers – recyclable materials and organic waste. The containers will have two types of stickers reading ‘recycling materials’ and ‘organic waste’.

As per the decision, the containers should meet requirements of certain conditions and specifications. The containers for recycle materials will be blue color of 1,100 litre and (should be labeled with recyclable materials).

However, the dumping containers for recycle materials will be 7 yards long.

The container for organic waste will be in gray color made of plastic/ metal dedicated for collecting wastes of 1,100 litre. The dumping container for organic waste will be 5/7/13/18 yards long. The pressure container for collecting organic waste will be 20X3.

The aforementioned targeted entities which were taken under the preview of the decision are required to change the type of containers for wastes or increase them accordingly when they are notified by the respected municipality that wastes overflow the containers or their wastes threaten to the public health or environment.
