The Embassy of Japan is organising a Japanese popular theatre performance “Japanese Dance and Music – Omnibus from Popular Theatre Scenes” by Kengeki Harukomaza on October 22 and 23 at Katara (Drama Theatre) in cooperation with the Human and Cultural Exchange General Incorporated Association with the support of Katara.

This event is a part of “Qatar Japan 2012” project to celebrate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Qatar and Japan. The ticket (QR50) is now available on the Virgin Tickets’ Website and Virgin Megastore (at Villaggio and Landmark).

Japanese popular theatre, which became distinguished from traditional theatre in the 20th century is loved by general public for its casual way and entertainment feature. It could be described as Japanese musical comedy.

The Kengeki Harukomaza troupe is recognised as one of the most creative popular theatre troupes in Japan lead by the charismatic performer, Ryu Tsugara. They will perform famous dance and music scenes from Japanese Popular Theater. The audience will be able to understand the performance without knowing Japanese language.

The highlight of the show is that some actors impersonate beautiful women, some actresses also play the role of men, and this creates a mystical world where reality and fiction mingle in the most marvelous way with a wide variety of captivating performances.

Another big attraction is the gorgeous costumes used in the performance. Actors and actresses wear a wide variety of Japanese Kimonos, traditional costumes for festivals and Samurai style. After the performance, a short photo session will be held by the players in their costumes.

“Japanese Dance and Music –Omnibus from Popular Theatre Scenes” is specially made for performing in Qatar. “As Qatar was one of the first and largest contributors to support Japan after the Great East Japan Earthquake, Kengeki Harukomaza on behalf of the Japanese people, would like to express their gratitude to the people and the Government of Qatar for their kind and generous support,” said an embassy statement.
