The outreach iniative at Landmark Mall attracted a large number of interested visitors.
Doha: Qatar University College of Pharmacy (QU-CPH) in collaboration with Qatar Pharmacy Undergraduate Society (QPhUS) and Qatar University Student Representative Board (QU-SRB) recently hosted an outreach campaign in Landmark Mall to raise awareness of proper medication use during Ramadan.
Students from the College of Pharmacy (CPH) enthusiastically engaged with the public and answered questions.
The outreach campaign was attended by more than 250 visitors and included different stations set up to allow the public to gain knowledge on various aspects of medication.
These included how to adjust the timings of medications during fasting in Ramadan, which kind of medications will not break the fast and how to manage diabetes in Ramadan including insulin administration and hypoglycemia management.
Dean of CPH Dr. Feras Alali said “It gives me great pleasure to witness outreach campaign initiatives led by our qualified College faculty, staff and students. While the goal in Ramadan is to strengthen our spiritual and physical relationship with God, it is also important to stay educated about our physical health.
“Only through campaigns like ‘Ramadan and Medications’ should we be able to educate the public about medication and encourage a healthier Qatar. This also showcases the College of Pharmacy attempts to give all its students a wide range of chances for real-world learning and application that they can use to build their professional abilities.”
Teaching Assistant and Outreach event lead organizer Dr. Stephanie Atweh said, “It was such an honour to prepare for this unique and special outreach event. I was so proud to work closely with the students and see their enthusiasm to serve the public and ensure their safe use of medications during the holy month of Ramadan. My personal favourite activity that we prepared was the interactive station that tackled diabetes medication and healthy food choices. Seeing the kids ask their parents to visit our booth was also extremely rewarding! I will always remember this event and I hope to be a part of it next year as well."
