Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) yesterday celebrated 44th anniversary of its establishment in 1978 as the first charitable, volunteering, and humanitarian organisation in Qatar.

The ceremony was attended by Ali bin Hassan Al Hammadi, Secretary-General of QRCS; Dr. Saleh Ali Al Marri, Assistant Minister for Health Affairs at the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH); Faisal Mohamed Al Emadi, CEO of QRCS; Faisal Rashid Al Fahida, Assistant CEO for Programs and Community Development Sector at Qatar Charity (QC); Talal Tarad Al Hathal, Executive Director of Education Above All’s (EAA) Al-Fakhoora Program; and Fahd Malik, Director of Communication and Partnerships Department at Silatech and Ahmed Rashid Al Kuwari, humanitarian aid researcher at Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD).

Many QRCS heads of department, employees, members, volunteers, and representatives of foreign offices were also present. In his opening speech, Al Hammadi said, “Forty-four years have gone, with numerous achievements that changed lives and recorded success stories and smiles. Thousands of vulnerable families have found a home to live in, clothes to wear, and a medical professional to treat them. It has been by Allah’s blessing that these achievements have been made and pain has been replaced by hope.”

He explained QRCS’s slogan ‘Saving Lives and Preserving Dignity’: “It was chosen by the founders to represent their humanitarian ambition, inspire the organisation’s goal of improving the lives of the vulnerable, and outline its special strategy of mobilizing communities in the face of crises and human tragedies to enjoy a safe and decent life. Al Emadi thanked everyone who contributed to the charitable and humanitarian work of QRCS and the State of Qatar in many international contexts. He praised the efforts of partners as the “main factor in the organization’s work.”

According to him, QRCS carried out operations in 27 countries, together with many partners such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), QFFD, MoPH, Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities, and many partners supporting various international projects.

In 2021, QRCS made remarkable services for up to 128,000 beneficiaries from local programs, 2.4 million beneficiaries from medical services, and more than 1 million visitors to Workers’ Health Centers.

Meanwhile, 6.5 million people benefited from relief and development projects/aid in 27 countries.

Many representatives of ministries and partners were honoured for supporting QRCS projects and programmes at the local and international levels.
